The OFJ 4Cs Manual: Your Guide to the Perfect Diamond

To help you make the right decision, we educate every customer about the 4Cs — Cut, Carat, Colour, and Clarity — the global standard for evaluating diamonds.

  1. Cut
    The most important of the 4Cs. A well-cut diamond sparkles with brilliance and fire.

    • It includes angles, symmetry, proportions, and polish.

    • A classic round brilliant diamond has 57 facets that reflect light beautifully.

  2. Carat
    This refers to the weight of the diamond, not the size.

    • One carat equals 200 milligrams.

    • Bigger isn’t always better — a well-cut smaller diamond can shine brighter than a poorly cut larger one.

  3. Colour
    Diamonds are graded from D (colourless) to Z (light yellow).

    • Colourless diamonds (D-F) are rare and highly valued.

  4. Clarity
    Clarity measures the natural inclusions or imperfections inside a diamond.

    • Graded from IF (Internally Flawless) to I (Included).
